  • Post-Halloween…Post

    November 1st, 2009

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween.

There was some awesome teamwork on this guy:

    Company for horror movies:

My day was low key and filled with treats (like this Boo Berry cake):
    DSCN1404

The cereal texture was actually a bit chewy, which I didn’t expect, but they were quite good.

Another highlight of the day was seeing these two chocolate moose in a Vermont candy store. Without antlers or accessories, this fellow weighs close to ten pounds more than I do:

    And his lady friend…

    Um…“Open Cuts, $12?” Not a Halloween special, I fear.

It seems like most people are thankfully relaxing now that Halloween has passed, but I don’t quite feel done with the whole season yet. I’d like to stretch it out a few more weeks.

  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

    October 31st, 2009

Let’s usher in the day with some of Mike Soz’s perfectly themed art.

This one? Craft project inspiration, all the way!

If I’ve ever said I want to “steal a man’s heart”…this is exactly what I meant (kidding, kidding…or am I?)

  • Halloween Countdown: Chris Ware’s New Yorker Cover

    October 31st, 2009

Covers of The New Yorker can sometimes be quite clever, but my favorite in recent history is Chris Ware’s Halloween cover. I was chuckling sarcastically as soon as I pulled this out of my mailbox.

    Poignant little commentary, no?

  • Halloween Countdown: Cat-o-Lanterns

    October 31st, 2009

Yet another creative jack-o-lantern idea! This one was posted on BB Blog:

    SunsetCatolanterns

I love how they almost appear to be made of shiny black vinyl.

  • Halloween Countdown: Misc. 2

    October 30th, 2009

I’m in a bit of a rush, so I leave you with some more images from random web scouring.

    Classic…
    500x_reanimator3

I once made my best friend a collection of Gahan Wilson’s monster themed cartoons after discussing the ramifications of the term “Goth humor” (though I do not consider these to fall under that category).

I was unaware that Japan has adopted some Halloween customs. Apparently it was not celebrated there until recent years, but the Japanese holiday of Obon is a relatively similar holiday commemorating the spirits of the departed.

Side note: I find it rather fascinating that most known cultures have established rituals or holidays to honor the dead (in strikingly similar ways). That’s material for a separate post…

I’m pretty cold at the moment…I’d like to be in front of this.

This should be an animated gif. Let me know if it doesn’t work:

Okay, this is not Halloween related. I just like it (costume idea for a party with some serious know-it-all movie geeks?):

    Have a wonderful Halloween!

  • Halloween Countdown: Shadowmill Productions

    October 30th, 2009

Drat. I had many more Halloween posts to make in my countdown, and the holiday has managed to sneak up on me.

Shadowmill Productions has a lovely little collection of creepy photographs and short films. Click on the link to view actual photos! They blur and un-blur when you move over them…saving them results in the blurred versions!

Next to each photo is a description or story, summarizing the mournful plight of these ghostly subjects.

There is a nice little section ofshort films as well.

  • Halloween Countdown: October Effigies

    October 28th, 2009

I’ve posted about Kerry Kate before (I still drool over the cabinet image in that post!), but I just wanted to share a few of her recent additions for this Halloween season, hand painted and gorgeous as always.

I’m a huge fan of the Halloween ornament idea. Why should Christmas have a monopoly? Next year, I’m making a Halloween Tree!

…though ornaments have plenty of other possible decorative uses.

  • Halloween Countdown: Nikimaki

    October 28th, 2009

I became enamored with nikimaki’s projects through the Crafty Chica Challenge (Day of the Dead Shrine contest).

This woman is a master of detail. Her altered object crafts are fantastic. She definitely gets my vote as Day of the Dead shrine contest winner!

Her other crafts are lovely as well, so take a look at her flickr sets and blog.

  • Halloween Countdown: Misc. Images

    October 27th, 2009

Time for a completely random collection of Halloween images, most of which I have no source for (because I’m an overactive right-click-save-as kind of gal).
