SheWalksSoftly

  • Sarah Maxey

    September 4th, 2010

Graphic designer and handlettering artist Sarah Maxey made a poster with a quote that could be stamped on pretty much everything I make.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve stayed home just to be crafty.

Another favorite piece from Ms. Maxey (do I detect a brain design?):

    See more here.

  • Today…

    September 4th, 2010

I don’t like missing days of posting, but sometimes non-blog life demands a little extra attention. I hope to be back in the swing of things tomorrow.

  • Iron Fist: Zombie Bikini

    September 1st, 2010

Granted, every elusive cryptid on record has had more sightings than SheWalksSoftly in a bathing suit. But if I had the courage to show some skin, it would be fun to wear something like this (note: I do not have the courage).

    Dead sexy.

I’ve been getting a craving to paint on clothing and shoes…

  • Felt and Wire: When Hell Freezes Over

    August 31st, 2010

What a great idea for a greeting card and/or stationary…a happy devil, skating through a frozen hell.

This would be great to send to someone who has seemingly done the impossible.

  • Anton Tang

    August 30th, 2010

The human tendency to anthropomorphize never gets old to me. I sit here, staring at inanimate objects, KNOWING they are inanimate…yet neurons keep firing in my brain that endow these objects with human pathos.

There’s been a trend of emotional robots surfacing around the Internet these days (I love every minute of it).

Anton Tang makes brilliant use of our inability to avoid feeling something for objects placed in human positions and situations in his series of tiny cardboard people placed around Singapore.

    Magical!

  • Alien Pez Dispenser

    August 29th, 2010

Not much info on this little custom gem. I wish they manufactured these (along with a Predator Pez dispenser of course).

    Brilliant work on the jaws…

  • The Lowbrow Tarot Card Project

    August 28th, 2010

I’m really excited for The Lowbrow Tarot Card Project, soon to debut at La Luz De Jesus in LA.

Favorite artists, a favorite gallery, and a favorite subject matter! I truly enjoy seeing artist interpretations of the tarot. The cards fascinate me as visual representations of archetypes.

I believe there will be a deck and book released as well!

See a few more previews here.

  • Raiu

    August 27th, 2010

Monster Brains has a nice little roundup of art by obscure artist Raiu.

You can definitely detect the classical style amidst the monsters and the undead…

    More here.

  • 16th Century Rosary

    August 26th, 2010

What an interesting artifact. The carvings on this 16th Century German Rosary Terminal are quite intricate…and macabre.

Each bead of the rosary represents the bust of a well-fed burgher or maiden on one side, and a skeleton on the other. The terminals, even more graphically, show the head of a deceased man, with half the image eaten away from decay. Such images served as reminders that life is fleeting and that leading a virtuous life as a faithful Christian is key to salvation.

  • Po’boy Art: Emek

    August 25th, 2010

Po’Boy Art Studio was my introduction to prolific artist Emek.

His collection of band posters, editorial and political art is so extensive that I’m going to make it easy on myself and highlight a few from the Po’boy site:

A lesson not to wait by the phone…

There are more at Po’boy Art Studio…

But check out EMEK for a variety of material (and some impressively varied style).
