  • Halloween Countdown: Party City Roundup

    October 14th, 2011

And now, some favorites from this year’s stock.

I like their whole “Be Very Afraid” line of decorations and tableware.

A few simple, classy black items might go well with…well, pretty much anything.

A special twist on drink umbrellas:

    Check out this…wait for it…HANDelabra:

I must admit I swooned over these mini icing knives for cake/cupcake decorating like I was looking at a newborn baby. “Ooooh…so cute!”

  • Halloween Countdown: Riptheskull

    October 12th, 2011

Halloween lovers, I’m going to warn you right now: Riptheskull’s Vintage Halloween Card Flickr Set can eat up a whole afternoon.

There are currently over 1600 cards in this set (yes, you read that right), covering many styles and subjects.

There are even (seemingly ambivalent) cannibal pumpkins.

Whether you want bizarre, beautiful, ridiculous, romantic or pure vintage WTF…this collection will have something for you.

    Check out the set here.

  • Halloween Countdown: Cookie Roundup

    October 11th, 2011

Cookies ain’t just for eating anymore! These little bits of sugar and starch are the modern day mini canvas. I’ve enjoyed the boom in pastry arts over the past few years (though it would be tough to eat any of this artwork).

Here are a few favorites that turned up on Etsy for the Halloween season.

New Orleans inspired mini-voodoo set by CookieMamas:

    Adorable animal skeletons by AuCourantCookieCo:

    More cute skeletons by MissBettyCakes:

Amazing gingerbread corpses by LegraLand (okay, so these are technically ornaments…but they are too unique not to include):

Sometimes a simple idea is just nicely executed…like these spider web cookies by SweetAmbs:

    Skull cameo cookies by cerassweetshop:

These may be the finest sugar skull day of the dead cookies I’ve ever seen, by baked:

This Etsy search was very enjoyable, but there were also some pretty sad items up for sale.

(I’m keeping this seller anonymous because I feel too bad insulting someone’s genuine attempt at heartfelt baking…we’ve all had some craft fails…it’s okay).

Has anyone come across incredible baked goods this season?

  • Halloween Countdown: Out Out Damned Corn

    October 11th, 2011

I’ve posted about Andrew Bell here and here already. Now he’s debuted a project I must support: the Candy Corn zombie.

I feel compelled to post this because I find these little tricolor nuggets to be one of the most vile candies in all of creation, and I think it’s quite fitting to craft one that is undead.

This is how pretty much all Candy Corn looks in my head anyway. I’d love a go at that chocolate cookie he’s standing on though.

  • Pre-Halloween Open Mic Post

    October 9th, 2011

I want to invite you guys to share your favorite Halloween things (or shamelessly promote your own site) in the comments. I’ll make a follow up post showcasing the suggestions, if enough come in. Share old favorites, new favorites…whatever your ghoulish little heart desires.

I’d love to see some art, crafts, movies, cartoons, music, videos, events, displays, websites, countdowns, costumes, decorations, books, vintage odds and ends…anything! Have fun!

  • Halloween Countdown: Blair Sculpture

    October 8th, 2011

The iconic characters on Blair Sculpture are perfectly gruesome eye candy for the Halloween season.

Look at this impish Harvest Demon…

And his renditions of well-known creepy figures do not disappoint.

See more on the website, and check out some work-in-progress shots on deviantART.

  • Halloween Countdown: Monster Supplies

    October 7th, 2011

Most commercial Halloween products tend to lean toward the colorful, campy side. I love seeing *classy* products like the following.

    From the Ministry of Stories:
Welcome to East London’s premier purveyor of everyday and bespoke goods for the living, dead and undead. We stock a pharmacopoeia of different types of fear, a complete range of edible human preserves and everyday household essentials like Fang Floss and Zombie Mints. So we invite clients old and new to come and discover why we’ve been the store of choice for discerning monsters for over two hundred years, and will be the same forevermore.

    See more here.

  • Halloween Countdown: Violetpie

    October 6th, 2011

I’ve posted about Violetpie’s wonderful work before, but I love her new Halloween creations just in time for the season this year.

    Little goth deer…

    Zombie bunny!

  • Halloween Countdown: Skeleton Bracelet

    October 5th, 2011

Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the source link to work in order to gather more information about this piece…but it would be perfect for Halloween festivities (and year round for some folks).

  • Halloween Countdown: Snappy the Halloween Crocodile

    October 4th, 2011

Talk about getting into the spirit! Snappy, in a territorial moment, attacked the water filter in his enclosure at the reptile park. Soon after, he turned orange, which has thus far been attributed to to algae or tannins in the water.

I think Snappy knew exactly what he was doing.
