  • Target Halloween Clearance

    November 19th, 2011

What’s that? It’s almost Thanksgiving and there’s no excuse to be thinking about Halloween? Nonsense! There’s always an excuse to think about Halloween.

I just discovered that Target still has some items on clearance for great prices. For example…

    Beaded Pumpkin Coaster Set:

    Beaded Spider Web Coaster Set

    Skeleton Hand…dish/candle holder…thingy:

    Bloody Wine Glasses:

And now for some pumpkins with a nice retro flare…

    Pumpkin Dinner Plates:

They also come in Cereal Bowls:

    Oh Halloween…I miss you…

  • 2011 MF Toys Show

    November 18th, 2011

It’s time for Brooklyn’s MF Gallery annual toy show!

If you’re in the area, go see some creepy, cuddly, bony, fuzzy little monsters!

You can see some of the exhibit online here, but these are probably fun to see in person.

  • Largest Commercially Available Pizza

    November 17th, 2011

If there’s one thing I like more than a favorite food, it’s a GIANT version of a favorite food. Here we have the largest commercially available pizza, recently featured on That’s Nerdalicious.

It measures 4′ X 6′ and feeds 100 people for $199. Mama and Papa’s Pizzeria can deliver to your home with 24 hours notice. I really wish I could get this in NY…it would be front and center at my next party.

Then I’d stuff myself and take a nap in the box.

  • 100 Portraits

    November 16th, 2011

I am honored to be part of the 100 Portraits project by Artboy68.

He has set out to draw 100 portraits in a 20 week period, and they’re coming along quite well so far!

Check out the rest of the series here.

Thank you, Artboy68! I appreciate it very much!

  • Biography of a Hamster

    November 15th, 2011

50 Watts featured this curious children’s book, written in Hebrew. It is…The Biography of a Hamster.

I happen to think hamsters are adorable. I had half a dozen of them at different times during childhood (who now grace the soil, deep in my backyard). This book is quite unique in its illustrative style. Dare I say…slightly dark.

Looking at the collection of pages made me wish I could actually read the text.

    Look at THIS one!

    See the rest here.

  • Ken Reid: World Wide Weirdies

    November 14th, 2011

This very image heavy (but worth it) post over at Monster Brains contains a large collection of work by Ken Reid.

This World Wide Weirdies series is saturated with puns (of varying cleverness and success). Either way, these are very fun to look at.

    See the rest here.

  • Kate Rohde

    November 13th, 2011

Kate Rohde creates colorful sculptures and installations that hover somewhere between taxidermy and rainbow colored kitsch.

I’m not always one for bright colors, but I love the way she coordinates her color schemes in these pieces.

  • Mechanical Advertising Novelties, 1911

    November 12th, 2011

Scientific American has a nice little slide show of early 20th century novelty designs.

Strange automatons, mind tricks and whimsical inventions…

    See the rest here.

  • Monster Boots

    November 11th, 2011

These would not be my everyday boots, but oh boy…for special occasions…how fun!

  • Robert Stevenhagen: Screen Test

    November 10th, 2011

This short video from Robert Stevenhagen kind of made my morning. Apparently it relates to an upcoming production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”

Steffen Schaeffler- The Emperor’s New Clothes – Excerpt from Pascal Blais Animation Studio on Vimeo.

If you’re interested in something far less comical, Stevenhagen also directed this stop motion animation short film about the Plague:
