Cardboard Box Bedding

I’m all for unusual design in any form, but I have to say that I had a rather visceral reaction to Le-Clochard’s “homeless inspired” bedding set.

I suppose it comes down to my vehement dislike of rich people commandeering, bastardizing or otherwise making light of the experiences endured by the less fortunate. The thought of someone rolling around in expensive, delightfully soft cotton sheets and getting a thrill out of the fact that they look like a cardboard shelter makes my stomach turn.

Supposedly some of the proceeds go to help the homeless (commendable, but still an uncomfortable irony in my opinion). I do admire the realism of the design. I’d love to see other “bedding subject matter” covered by a designer with this kind of talent.

Halloween, Pottery Barn Style

I wrote about my lowbrow Halloween favorites in this post not long ago. Now it’s time to class it up a bit, with Pottery Barn’s Halloween collection.

I’m not surprised that the Skeleton Appetizer Plates sold out.

Gummi Lights

In a recent Rifftrax viewing of the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, my friend and I were quite fixated on our love of the giant gummi bears in Wonka’s factory. We began talking about what great light fixtures they would make.

I was delighted to find that JELLIO actually manufactures them!

JELLIO seems to have a monopoly on gummi bear light fixture production, therefore they see fit to charge $125 each or $500 for a set of five (which ensures that I’ll probably never own one). But I just like to know they exist. If I ever have children, I’d be tempted to seek these out again.

For the more sophisticated gummi bear enthusiast, there’s always the Gummi Bear Chandelier:

If I ever owned a candy store, I’d have to spring for one of these. Or make one myself.

The closest thing I’ve seen in real life came from Candy Blog’s review of the Big Bite Gummi.

They could be a fun item to share…creatively.

Log Light

I’m amazed that the Organic Log Light costs $575. It looks like something I might have made in elementary school shop class.

However, I’m now inspired to make a more elaborate version of this lighting structure. It has the potential to be a cool piece. I’d aim for tangles of wood resembling actual fire logs, and a more realistic flame configuration.

The Sensory Deprivation Skull

And I thought the Introvert Sweater provided privacy!

At first glance I took this for a desk accessory of some sort. Little did I know, it’s a sensory deprivation chamber!

Worries about maintaining adequate oxygen levels aside, I’d like to spend a few minutes meditating in here. At the very least it would make an interesting conversation piece when friends and family visit, only to find a giant skull in the corner.

Trove Wall Coverings

I’ve never given much thought to wallpaper, but I’m intrigued by Trove’s design concepts (click to enlarge).

The designs all come in various colors. Check out the one above in black!

The incorporation of movement and flight into a typically static product is quite beautiful, a nice break from the standard repeated interlocking patterns.

Entire walls covered with flying creatures may be a little too swarm-like for my taste, but I’d love to have those birds in a small section of a room.

Some of their designs even convey a seasonal feeling. Rarely have I seen wall coverings that create the mood of a room this effectively.

Magic Carpet Sofa

Hmmm…this would go nicely in my library. Although it doesn’t look terribly comfortable (and my little feet would dangle helplessly off the edge…if they could even reach it), I love the design concept.

Some of this furniture is a bit horrifying, some is just plain gaudy, some is painful to look at. Others are impractical yet entertaining.

All are worth a look.
Keyboard Waffle Maker

This made the blog rounds a little while ago, and I still haven’t gotten over how awesome it is:

It even features storage for various waffle toppings on the back. Dare I say, it’s a complete waffle CENTER.
