the Rice Hat Samurai has handmade pendants for the geek with fine taste.
Would you care for a Dalek to go with that evening dress?

Perhaps a dash of Star Trek for the discriminating feminine nerd?

I would love to get my hands on some more old and/or rejected pitch ideas from famed toy and gaming companies. The Nintendo Knitting Machine has been described as “one least genuinely enthusiastic demos” in NES history.
But the catch phrase is just so priceless:

Would you want to turbocharge your knitting with electronic assistance, or is this the very antithesis of knitting’s leisurely nature?
Short blurb on the product here.
What is the appeal of a laboratory? Its potential for discovery? The experiments? Or the cool apparatus?
The experimental pharmacology laboratory of the Wellcome Physiological Research Laboratories. 1909.

Apparatus used for reaction of active nitrogen with CO, CO2, O2, and H2 at the Fixed Nitrogen Research Laboratory.
Early research lab – Dr. Jesse L. King (1926)

Apparatus for Ozone Production, Fixed Nitrogen Research Laboratory, 1926 (CHF)

One thing is sure–these images add danger, excitement and mystique to something certain; Science!
I have more images on this subject, so I am going to extend the week a little while guest hosting. As exciting as Mad Scientists’ laboratories can be in movies, perhaps they would not exist in too much form if the real deal labs were not as fantastic.
High-frequency apparatus in the arc laboratory at the Fixed Nitrogen Research Laboratory.

Kodak Research Laboratories in Rochester, New York, in 1920 / Courtesy of Kodak. Now that’s a lab! Imagine the research that went into developing celluloid film in the early 1900’s…

Stay tuned for more!
I know Manos: The Hands of Fate primarily from my love of Mystery Science Theater 3000. You will usually hear the phrase “worst movie ever made” attached to the title.
Now you can enjoy some MANOS adventures in a new video game, Nintendo style.
If anyone gets/plays this…please let me know how it is!
I just want to share two shirts I enjoy from the delightfully geeky Big Brother Little Brother Shirts
I’m always partial to atomic particles.

And even though I’m arguably a little old for this shirt…I’d still rock it.

See more creations here.
I have no space for wall decals, but these geeky designs from Cut N Paste made my heart go pitter patter.
This one is my favorite: “How wonderful that we have met with a paradox. Now we have some hope of making progress.” An inspiring quote by Niels Bohr together with an image of particles’ collision inside a bubble chamber.

Oh, to have my walls speak in equations and schematics…

Ah, curling up with a good comic book…

Can you believe this is one of Sharon Moody’s trompe l’oiel paintings? She has done a number of comic book pieces.
But she has many other extremely well done photorealistic paintings in her collection as well.
Just a quick post to showcase this amazing Batman nail art (if I ever did this, I would have to paint on fake nails because I couldn’t stand to see these designs chip away and fall off!).
It’s that time again. Time to talk about Alien and Predator! Long time fans of this blog know of my odd compulsion to feature A & P goodies from time to time. So now I bring you the Alien and Predator wedding cake!
Aw, look at that bouquet and top hat…
Let’s not nitpick about the unlikelihood of Alien and Predator joining in wedded bliss (I know you were thinking it, sci-fi geeks!), and just enjoy the fine craftsmanship of the cake.
And perhaps the best part…FONDANT FACE HUGGER!
