The first thing that struck me about Patrick Hruby’s work is that it deviates from the kind of art that usually catches my eye, but I’m drawn to it nonetheless.
I think these pieces spark a bit of nostalgia because I am reminded of Disney’s It’s a Small World (which helped engender my love of freakish toys and dolls at a very young age…that ride is like a nightmare after too much candy, in the most wonderful way).
Back to Hruby…
I really like the way Hruby uses simple sections of color. And how he brightly covers some darker subjects.
I feel like a kid again.
