The Shoebox Blog recently launched a series of 165 Bots With Stuff.

I really enjoy the random yet simple nature of these bots. They’ve got personality!

They are the work of comic book creator Chris Grine.

Perhaps most people would opt to do artwork of this style digitally these days, but The Dirty Fabulous paints them by hand with acrylic on watercolor paper.

From the artist site: Philosophy, psychology, dreams, fears, human folly, eroticism, consumer culture, medieval manuscripts -all are brought in on these works.

I love how these images pop with color, and remind me of mixed media image collages.

See more here.
Just days after a very nostalgic 80’s gathering, these things happened to pop up.
*Sigh* Where were you on Saturday, Ice Invaders?
And cookies!
Over the weekend, there was some talk among my friends and I about hosting a chocolate tasting party. I would love to have a little something from Sterling Confections there. The combination of chocolate and art seems tailor made for me!

There are a number of unique flavors and designs, all handmade and painted.

You can watch a segment from Unwrapped about the making of Sterling Truffles here.
Found on Candyblog (with an excellent detailed review).
Apparently, this animation was banned from TV. I think I would have loved it as a child because I was strangely hard to frighten, but it’s surely capable of inducing horrific nightmares in the vast majority of the population.
Enjoy!
I had the pleasure of an early birthday celebration this past weekend, featuring lots of nostalgic goodies.

Friends contributed all kinds of treats, like these “30 things for turning 30” from Matt and Steph:

And homemade chocolate crucifixes by Lee:

There were TWO Space Invader cakes!

These photos of the Kiddie Comfort Food table don’t accurately reflect the majesty of the Hostess snack cake display.

The table evolved as the evening progressed…

If only I could share the fantastic music and video compilation! I’m so grateful to everyone for making this such a special night for me.
30 is going to be a wonderful year.
Something about the dead stares of Michael Page’s subjects lures me in. Their eyes gaze blankly into space as the world seems to simply happen to them.

Malice, violence and treachery transpire in the serene beauty of natural landscapes.

Conversely, he achieves a unique visual disconnect between magical occurrences and the presence of joy.

Many wonderful images on his website.
Walter Martin and Paloma Munoz created these life sized wax figures using themselves as the mold. Imagine the metaphysical implications of seeing your body melt to the ground before your eyes.

“We cast ourselves as candles in a mixture of beeswax and parafin with a wick running through the center from head to feet. We lit the candles at the beginning of our show in PPOW Gallery and we let the candles burn and run their course throughout the exhibition. Our candle bodies slowly melted away for the duration of the show.”
I’d like to burn a wax model of myself to the ground. I’m sure I’d find some fantastically symbolic Jungian delight in the process.
I am in the process of making it look like the 80’s vomited all over my living room for a pre-30th birthday celebration tomorrow. I figured it’s a nice inner child indulgence for this milestone of adulthood.
Thematically, Philippe Boulet’s LED chairs would be appropriate (didn’t everything just seem to have a neon glow back then?).

Actually, they are kind of a Victorian-80’s fusion design. And while I’d typically be opposed to having my tiny frame illuminated by a piece of furniture, I appreciate the novelty.
