Louise Despont

Posted in art with tags on December 31, 2009 by shewalkssoftly

Louise Despont conjures up illustrations that play with the minds eye. Filled with meticulous geometry, they evoke old world maps of places that do not exist, blueprints of buildings never built…

Viewing these drawings can feel like stumbling upon the sketches of a mad architect who designs impossible structures. She can design my dreamscapes anytime…

Heather Cox: Nonpareil Project

Posted in anatomy, art, candy coated nightmares, craft, installations with tags , , , , on December 30, 2009 by shewalkssoftly

Heather Cox is a fantastically innovative artist and sculptor. I’ve been marveling at her Nonpareil Project, which features shapes sewn into plastic bags and filled with tiny rainbow candy pellets.

This woman has such an amazing imagination. Who would think to combine these elements? Genius.

It’s worth going through all of her projects. You’ll find everything from tissue paper to pencil erasers to nail clippers, combined in amazing structures and designs.

Thanks to Haunt Style for reminding me to post this.

Big (Prune Juice) Pimpin

Regretsy has quickly become a favorite site of mine.

This hat reminded me of how I often say that I “feel like an old lady.” I hope that when I actually DO become an old lady, I’ll have the sense of humor to pimp it out like this:

The Invincible Snowman

I’ve been slightly negligent with the blog for standard holiday reasons, but I should be back full force tomorrow. In the meantime, please enjoy this snowman. I’m very entertained by his claim of invincibility. Doesn’t anyone have a match? A hair dryer?

I wish all of you (who celebrate Christmas) a wonderful holiday today. And I wish everyone else a wonderful day…just for the hell of it.

(Not my own creation…wish I still had the source)

Here’s a little grab bag of random things I came across…

Were people really this glowing and happy decades ago?

If you haven’t made a habit of browsing vintage holiday ads the way I have, you might be surprised at the proliferation of firearms.

Ah yes, peace and goodwill toward mankind…isn’t this the true embodiment of the season?

This is my favorite; the basis of yearly holiday photos this time around (no, that’s not my real hair).

Bet you didn’t know orange was a Christmas color. Love the TWO sets of quotation marks, too.

Now this is a gift I would have wanted:

And here’s a gift for the ladies that hovers somewhere between a daisy and a medieval torture device:

Love this shirt from Kawaii Not:

Now for some sexiness…

Russian Space Santa

Sometimes life gives us pleasant synchronicity. I was planning to post my old collection of Russian spaced themed Christmas cards, and woke up to an email from Vlad containing a portion of the cards in my collection…and then some!

I’m not sure why I love the combination of outer space and Christmas so much. Perhaps it’s because if we’re going to celebrate a man who defies the laws of physics, why not go ALL OUT with it?

Wow…a lot going on here…

I could easily use up my image space by posting many more…but I’ll hold off.

This is exactly how I’ll be preparing my holiday dinner.

I find something about this tiny rug quite sweet and endearing.

Dream big, little carpet!
