Every now and then I get wrapped up in adorable things (hence my recent addition of the YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE CUTE tag). Martin Bregman has a way with sweet, simple design.

A Rumble in the Tummy:

Look at the happy fellows…

If I ever get a mannequin for clothing design, I do believe I will paint some sort of anatomical design on it. here’s an interesting twist on the idea:

PORKTERGEIST!

I instantly adored this frothing flask paperweight from ButterflyLove1.

…and this sweet little test tube.

Cyclops plant: perfect leafy companion.

Such a cute, unassuming little ghost:

Pinky Toast

I’m getting a little nostalgic for autumn and Halloween treats. I know it’s out of season, but I came across some cute little pumpkin characters by Pinky Toast.

Pinky Toast also creates many whimsical little doll-like girls, sometimes with a dash of humor or darkness. She describes them as “peppered with pinks, sour pouts, big eyes, raindrops, baby doll dresses, twins, moon balloons, and flying bananas.”

Let’s start with a little faux vintage science, shall we?

Yes. Please.

I think this cat-erpillar is on my craft to-do list now. You can make it move in many kinds of ways.

Just your average post-Easter bunny mass suicide (nice work decorating the seasonal isle, guys):

Best weather forecast ever:

You know it’s spring when the Chevys start blooming again.

Grandfather of the Michelin Man

If the Sears portrait studio offered this, I would totally get in front of a camera.

A quizzical little Max Ernst piece:

Excellent ad:

Love this…

Truly amazing top hat idea:

I’d be reluctant to buy these for the sheer amount of lacing required, but this custom painted pair is quite a work of art.

Cute crafty robot:

Perfect for Halloween season (or anytime, really):

Clock for the guest room, to make folks feel welcome:

Does anyone know the origin story of this ice cream truck?

If you haven’t heard, divorce rings are becoming…a thing, proving once again that no human milestone…however brutal…can’t be commodified.

Nice…

This has come up on a few favorite blogs now…

Exquisite.

Ghostly beautiful…

An amazing collaboration between Salvador Dali and Elsa Schiaparelli, circa 1938:

And Jesus rides in on a unicorn to save the day…

Marie Antoinette’s royal beauty regimen was far less time consuming after her loss…

Cuddly Rigor Mortis (Kristin Tercek)

Okay, here’s one for my you can’t HANDLE the cute tag.

Cuddly Rigor Mortis features a collection of sweet little creeps and misfits.

One of her plush creations was featured in my zombie plush roundup.

Poor Minty…

The cutest Christmas pudding ever:

Just a small dose of pure evil here.

By Albrecht Dürer:

Another public display:

Now THIS is a rabbit installation (there was no source so I don’t know where it’s located):

Love this girl’s work (link on photo):

Bunny-ish?

By the wonderful Femke Hiemstra:

Yes!

Ghost Girl inspired eggs, done by Lauren Nemchik (thanks to the talented Tonya Hurley for sharing these!):

Steampunk egg:

Wow…this one has a little “stage” too!

Rather pretty…

Not the most elaborate Peeps diorama I’ve seen, but it gets major bonus points for the subject and wordplay:

Kitschy chickadees:

Fabulous vintage Easter hat featuring what seems to be…a colorful Shih Tzu:

Classic Easter parade gear:

This makes me sad. I highly doubt this feline felt “deprived of a proper Easter egg hunt” before being forced into this hideous torture hat.

And for the Alien fans out there:

Happy Easter to those who celebrate. If you feel like some blast from the past posts, check these out:

Just a few pre=Easter treats sitting on my desktop at the moment…

Ah, some evil bunny soap for the guest bathroom:

By Felipe Bedoya (I’ve never seen bunnies look this…high…but they appear to be enjoying their little party):

Aww…

So deadly…

Just tiptoe away.

Bunny is dressing up his taxidermy human again.

Clock-bellied…but kind of neat:

While we’re on the topic of bellies, why not fashion this bread bowl and let your guests scoop the creamy innards from a poor eviscerated rabbit?

Um…I guess that’s better than human innards adorned with some kind of rabbit bride ensemble.

I’m not sure if I’ve posted this…but it’s amazing.

I would love to see the creature casting this shadow.

Show offs:

As far as kitschy holiday jewelry goes, this may be the finest thing that plastic can offer:

No amount of novelty could make this a good cake idea. One of the best things about cake is that you never have to peel it or bite into bits of shell.

Speaking of cake, here’s one for all of your sheep-rabbit needs:

Now this I could use as a centerpiece:

Perfect felted Easter eggs! Does anyone know the artist?

Adorable black bunny from Violetpie who also does some sweet Halloween creations.

More to come…

This has come up in about 5 of the blogs I typically follow…so Cyborg Gorbachev is really asking to be posted.

If I were a few inches tall, this would be my preferred mode of transportation.

Amazing doll concept by Ali Gulec:

These life-like Beavis and Butt-Head statues having been making the Internet rounds as well. Wonderful job crafting a photorealistic and rather horrifying vision of these two, Kevin Kirkpatrick. See a few more shots here.

Why I love being an introvert:

On a related note, I think this would make great club wear for introverts. It really sends the right message if one is not in the mood for human interaction: Come one step closer and I will BITE you!

Finally, the trendy luxury toward which I harbor an extreme distaste finds a home in serial killer apparel. THIS, I like.

I’m with you, Neil!

Fatal Attraction had NOTHING on this:

Bear with me for a moment of extreme adorableness…

And speaking of cats, take a look at what I always pretty much assumed would be my own future (everybody knows it’s not official until facebook says so…this is the real deal):

Ohhhh-kay, so I’ll admit that I only envision myself in a relationship with one or two cats. I’m about quality, not quantity.

Now we come to the portion of this blog post where I try to avoid making a pun about something being “fishy” here…

Usually at least one of my Desktop Goodies will launch me into utter confusion. Today’s baffling example (caption, anyone?):

…and by “Projection Equipment” they mean her brassiere:

Ladies, I’ll leave you with this romantic gift idea: raw meat.

Biography of a Hamster

Posted in Books, illustration, you can't handle the cute with tags , , on November 15, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

50 Watts featured this curious children’s book, written in Hebrew. It is…The Biography of a Hamster.

I happen to think hamsters are adorable. I had half a dozen of them at different times during childhood (who now grace the soil, deep in my backyard). This book is quite unique in its illustrative style. Dare I say…slightly dark.

Looking at the collection of pages made me wish I could actually read the text.

Look at THIS one!

I’m sure many of you have already seen the zombie pumpkin spawn, but it’s truly amazing:

Perhaps I should start a “romance” tag for all the things I find endearing that would probably thoroughly put off most women (like Zombie Bon Bons):

This D.W. Frydendall Halloween Icon Portrait Show at Hyaena Gallery features one of my all time favorites…Hatbox Ghost (featured here and here)!

Check out my friend K.O.’s wonderful blog The Skeleton Key for Halloween goodies (great photos of her personal excursions and decor!).

Not Halloween related exactly, but monstrous…observe a hamster with a unique hoarding habit by CLICKING HERE.

And speaking of creatures, one of my favorite nature blogs, Real Monstrosities has a Halloween collection of natural spooky critters.

How about a wonderful collection of death (and life) masks?:

For the Hello Kitty fans out there, enjoy this little feline in the guise of your favorite monsters here:

A ridiculously cute spooky Russian doll garland, downloadable here.

Ugh…I guess at least this is preparing her for her teen years and adulthood when the only pre-made costume choices she’ll have will be slutty cop, slutty bumblebee, slutty nurse, slutty witch, slutty fairy…

More later or tomorrow!
