Alien Fossil Pendant

Posted in craft, jewelry, sci-fi with tags , , on May 6, 2012 by shewalkssoftly

I’ve seen (and made) some sci-fi themed pendants in my day, but I’m totally floored by this alien fossil pendant by IMNIUM.

Seriously amazing craftsmanship! See other creations here.

Geeky Easter Eggs

Here is a little collage of geeky Easter eggs I’ve saved over time.

Bite my shiny metal egg!

The whole Futurama crew:

Absolutely love these LEGO eggs:

Batman and Spidey:

Assorted superheroes:

Nintendo:

Another:

Beep beep…boop boop…

More Star Wars (click to enlarge):

Battlestar Galactica (which I’ve never seen, but I do know many people who love it):

TARDIS egg:

For the Tim Burton fans…

Look at this Cheshire Cat!

Now for some zombie Easter eggs.

If anyone has suggestions for others, send them my way!

Although I’m largely opposed to the idea of food in pill form (since eating is one of the finest pleasures in life), this is a pretty fine looking meal tray:

Love the movie…love this piece by Teetering Bulb.

Yeah, this is how most of my days start too…

Oh model in your lovely spine dress, I hate to see you go but I love to watch you leave…

Great photograph by Helen Warner:

ACTION JEANS! My ACTION SWEATPANTS actually have some of the same properties. Gotta be prepared if a fight breaks out while I’m scouring the Internet for art and reading science books in my room.

With the sheer proliferation of puns in this text, it must be self-aware, right?

On a related note, I’ve posted about vintage parade floats before, but here’s a new favorite:

Skullball Machine!

Speaking of skulls…

I’m not sure what it says about me that I put this image in my “Valentine” folder:

Paint just gets EVERYWHERE…

And while we’re on the subject of art, leave it to Regretsy to design this handy measurement tool for the less desirable side of some artistic personalities:

I’m not a camper, but I want this tent! Makes me want to venture out into the wilderness (which may or may not mean my own backyard).

And I’ll finish off with the desktop dose of confusion; trading cards seen on Agence Eureka.

Mmmm…steak in a can. That’s the good stuff.

Alien Chopsticks

I rarely find myself eating with chopsticks, but these sets of Alien chopsticks make me want to start.

Nikolai Lutohin: Galaksija

Posted in art, retro, sci-fi, vintage with tags , , , on December 1, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

50 Watts has done it again, with an amazing vintage sci-fi post that features illustrations from Galaksija Magazine.

These images are by Yugoslavian artist Nikolai Lutohin.

I would love to put some of these on T-shirts or jewelry.

See more here.

Let me preface this by saying I have not had Internet for four days due to Hurricane Irene. My entire town and surrounding areas are still without it and we don’t know when it (or other media/communications) will be restored. I feel VERY lucky to have electricity right now. I drove to the closest place I could find to get online for a moment, and will try to do so again as soon as possible. In the meantime…

This made my day, because outside of saying it myself I’ve never seen the phrase “Zoologically incorrect”…and it’s a favorite.

Peeeeeeek-a-Boooooo!

Another unsettling Peek-a-Boo:

Think about this next time someone uses the fine colloquialism “He/she’ll have my head on a platter!”

This actually got printed:

You might be living in an insane, surrealist dictatorship if your “Dear Leader” is plastered on boxes of tongue scrapers…and walks by to inspect them for quality.

Awww…

Go ahead Betty…one Business Casual Angel Donut won’t hurt…

Yep.

The comic panel of my life (books rule!):

The female of this species probably takes a ages doing her makeup in the morning.

And speaking of other species…we will never be as awesome as this guy…

I’ll leave you with this, folks…

Alexander McQueen: Alien Shoes

Posted in fashion, sci-fi with tags , on August 1, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

I rarely have the slightest interest in or awareness of what’s going on in the world of high fashion, but I make brief and rare exceptions to enjoy the anatomical and sci-fi inspired designs of Alexander McQueen.

For example, these Giger-esque Alien shoes:

I know, these are SO last season. They come in a variety of colors (I don’t understand why blue and white would be among them). In my opinion nothing beats the classic “metal” pictured above, save for maybe a glossy black version, more true to Alien form.

I would also like to accessorize with the previously mentioned Alien Pez Dispenser.

Ray Harryhausen Creature Compliation

Posted in animation, film, sci-fi, video, vintage with tags , , , , on May 27, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

Since yesterday’s post was in honor of my late mother, this one goes out to my father who introduced me to legions of fantastic monsters, aliens, villains and robots.

Last time I visited him in LA we enjoyed some Ray Harryhausen. Here’s a complication of stop-motion animated goodness from the master himself.

Dad, you know I think of you fondly whenever I see something explode, zoom through space, rise from the grave or battle.

Precious moments. :-)

Jonathan Koshi

Okay, okay…this has been going around the web quite a bit, but folks who don’t subscribe to hundreds of art blogs like I do might not have seen them.

Jonathan Koshi has a series of prints featuring pop culture icons in Day of the Dead fashion.

Favorite (of course):
