I Don’t Get Fashion: “ME!”

Posted in absurd, clothing, fashion, humor with tags , , , on July 8, 2014 by shewalkssoftly

Okay, this shirt is patently absurd, but it’s so bad that it’s actually kind of intriguing and mesmerizing.

While I’d never personally wear it, I’m completely entertained by its existence. Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what the statement of this garment may be (aside from the obvious)?

All I could come up with is “Head of the Narcissist Convention.”

Starstuff Clothing

I am SUCH a sucker for galaxy print clothing (or galaxy printed ANYTHING I guess). Starstuff Clothing now has a kickstarter campaign to vastly expand their range of items and significantly lower the price.

The company designs T-Shirts, Dresses, Tank Tops & Socks that feature the natural splendor of the Universe itself. They only use real celestial images, and the result is excellent. Even better, the threads themselves are dyed in their process, so these products don’t contain the characteristic stiffness of some printed shirts (I’ve certainly ordered a few from other companies and been sorely disappointed by that!).

I really look forward to seeing the ladies’ t-shirts and dresses!

Pink Skeleton Wedding Dress

Posted in clothing, fashion, wedding with tags , , on May 23, 2014 by shewalkssoftly

A Google image search ties this dress to Lucky 9 Designs, but I don’t see it in the photo albums there (I discovered it on Pinterest). At any rate, here’s something for the VERY offbeat brides in the audience:

Have you or would you ever wear a wedding dress like this? I would probably go more traditional (believe it or not!), but I admire the artistry.

Ball Jointed Doll Tights

Where were these when I dressed up as a (slightly mischievous) doll for a holiday card photo, circa 2002? Bead Borg makes fantastic hand-airbrushed stockings that look freakishly like ball jointed doll legs.

How wonderful are these?

I’m definitely a fan of the cracked versions (for the vintage/antique feel). I think this would be my top choice if I were to order a pair:

Some are android/robot parts.

Tie Story

I happen to be an extremely feminine creature in all ways, but sometimes I take note of the fact that if I were a man I would undoubtedly have a collection of bizarre and interesting ties.

Tie Story makes me want to just start wearing this accessory myself with button down shirts (the one problem is that standard ties are WAY too big for my diminutive frame…maybe I can find skinny ones).

My other absolute favorite store in the tie market is Cyberoptix. Great stuff.

Hiroko Kubota

Hiroko Kubota has a collection for cat lovers (like me). Embroidered cats peeking out of pockets! I would wear any of these, shamelessly.

The AntiCraft: Bat Shawl

Posted in clothing, craft with tags , on November 14, 2013 by shewalkssoftly

I’ve already mentioned my love of hidden darkness. The AntiCraft has posted a bat shawl that has me once again wishing I knew how to knit.

What a perfect age-appropriate accessory for the classy lady with a penchant for creatures of the night.

Subtle and perfect…

I Don’t Get Fashion: A.P.C. Store’s Hip Hop T-Shirt

Posted in absurd, clothing, fashion, humor, soapbox with tags , , , , on September 30, 2013 by shewalkssoftly

Now, this had to have started as a joke; overinflated egos toying with masses for fun. I could launch into a massive sociological tirade, but lucky for the folks at A.P.C. and the rash of gullible humans who forked over $120 for this thing…my typing abilities are currently restricted.

I don’t know what’s more discouraging: the fact that this shirt took a COLLABORATION to design (as if it were groundbreaking and not the most common, standard piece of clothing ever sold on this planet, and for under 10 bucks)…or the fact that it actually sold out.

I Don’t Get Fashion: Drop Crotch, Slim Harem Pants

Posted in absurd, comics, fashion, humor with tags , , , on September 14, 2013 by shewalkssoftly

I’m starting a new feature on this blog entitled “I Don’t Get Fashion.” Due to my health, it has been two years since I’ve seen the outside world or been to a clothing store. But sometimes I glimpse a trend online, or through some sort of media, and emerge from the vision utterly baffled…like I’m looking at prototypes of an alien invention.

Disclaimer: I’m not trying to hate on anyone or anything. These fashion comments are coming from a former(ish) goth. Let’s not take ourselves too seriously, okay?

Anyway, Fashion, I know you must continue blasting out ever-new trends for eager consumers. But sometimes I still don’t get you.

First case in point: Drop Crotch Slim Harem Pants.

If one needs that “billowy upper leg (only)” feeling, or room for an industrial sized diaper, I guess one has come to the right place. Why not cover those pesky calves snuggly and allow plenty of open thigh chafing space?

You may be asking “what is the perfect body type to pull off this style?” And the answer is none. I’ll save us all the magazine article commentary and cut straight to the truth: no body type can “rock” this. Or even climb the ladder into “mildly passable.”

I can’t help but think each pair is a gruesome tailoring mistake for which any customer would instantly demand a refund (and maybe sue for damages).

I am asking, un-ironically, for anyone to speak out in support of this trend. If you love ‘em, let me hear the baggy-crotch backlash! Or feel free to ponder their existence out loud.

Owl Sweater

Posted in clothing, craft with tags , on June 18, 2013 by shewalkssoftly

I don’t knit (I know, I know…I should learn but I already have so many craft obsessions). Sometimes I do random searches for knit patterns anyway. This came up in a query for “owl sweater.” Excellent pattern…

The design is subtle yet distinct. I wish I could knit it, because the ones I’ve seen for sale are at least $90.
