Image Odyssey: Awful Jesus Tattoos

Posted in absurd, body decoration, humor, image odyssey with tags , , , on January 6, 2012 by shewalkssoftly

I try to be an informed, responsible citizen and pay attention to the news. However, while browsing for important content that is somehow relevant to the state of the human condition, I came across something that The Internets deem quite newsworthy: Justin Bieber’s new Jesus tattoo.

So I figured there must be tons of awful Jesus tattoos out there. My search did not disappoint.

People of all religions or lack thereof…let us unite in our common faith in human beings…to make bad decisions.

Is this Jesus, Will Ferrell, or some kind of hybrid Ferrell Christ?

I don’t know what to say about this, other than “that’s a shame for everyone involved:”

Hm. Okay.

It looks like Jesus wears his sunglasses at night…

Just put the eyes *somewhere* on the face. Anywhere will do.

Easy, breezy, beautiful Cover Christ (Jesus is wearing Cover Girl smudge proof mascara, in “Film Noir”):

I’m speechless…I’m…sorry…I’m…uncomfortable and confused.

Poor Jesus looks so disgusted to be on this man’s head that he’s downright ill. I don’t blame him.

Same here:

Ready for a different twist? Jesus WITH a tattoo! Don’t like it? Tell it to his acid wash jeans!

Sadly, this post will probably get more hits (and disappointed viewers) than anything I’ve posted in years because it contains the words “Justin Bieber.”

Chadwick & Spector

Body painting: it’s not just for carnivals anymore. In their Museum Anatomy exhibit, Chadwick & Spector recreate fine art gallery selections on the human body.

This ambitious project must have been outrageously time consuming for both the artists and models.

There are many other breathtaking works on the artist site. Go have a look!

Evil Bunny Megapost

I tend to realize Easter is coming when I can get my hands on Cadbury Creme Eggs, but otherwise I pay very little attention to this holiday. However, I did manage to gather a substantial collection of evil bunnies to share.

Here is a previous post about bunnies from Thrift Horror Week, if you missed it.

Let’s start with some menacing mascots, shall we?

An old classic:

I get a really unwholesome feeling about this one:

And I sympathize with this guy:

How about a little face painting?

Now for some random lagomorphic horror:

I think this poor fellow has the mumps or something:

If you celebrate it, Happy Easter!

Owl Tattoos

Sometimes I randomly search for owl images, simply because I love them so much. I discovered a blog devoted entirely to owl tattoos.

The owl is one of my favorite creatures on earth (a recurring image in the things I make, buy and enjoy looking at). It possesses a rich symbolism, and I can appreciate that people have chosen to decorate themselves with such a worthy totem.

You’ll find some of the most bizarre chimera’s imaginable on the site (like the robot owl below)

The artistic scope and variation is amazing, ranging from the most basic patterns to the most detailed “sleeves.”

And then there are some that you’ll probably wish you could un-see.

If you share my love of these feathered friends, have a look.

Trust me when I tell you that you’ve never seen face painting like that of hawhawjames in your life. It manipulates the mind’s eye, skews perception and is simply all-around amazing.

I never bothered to get my face painted at carnivals (a little flower or peace sign begged the question “Why bother?”). But if I could have come home looking like this, you better believe I’d have been first in line!

There are hundreds of photos in his outstanding Flickr sets. You don’t want to miss them!

Literary Tattoos

Posted in body decoration with tags , on October 12, 2008 by shewalkssoftly

Long before my interest in medicine arose I was, and will always will be, a die hard bibliophile. No matter how many periods I go through in which I abandon literature for textbooks, I’ll always cherish the artistry of the written word.

Therefore I was very happy to find Contrariwise, a blog of literary tattoos.

It was nice to see some of my favorite authors and quotes inscribed on the flesh of fellow “Word Nerds.” I’ve decorated jewelry and clothing with such things many times.

Have a look.
