Scott Marr

Posted in art, nature with tags , on June 2, 2010 by shewalkssoftly

Scott Marr’s works are not only aesthetically compelling, but meticulously created with elements of nature. No oils and acrylics for him; all materials are taken from his outdoor surroundings.

Scott Marr uses natural pigments collected from the bush and farmlands including ochres, bark, charcoal, sap, flowers, berries, and the medium of fire to burn drawings (pyrography) onto paper and wood. Based on a love for drawing, Marr’s artwork looks into the world of what he calls “bio metamorphics” symbiosis, energy, or the “alchemy of nature”.

How beautiful, to use nature as a palette.

Ragtrader

In browsing Etsy, I came across some great creations from Ragtrader. The vintage style rings are ADJUSTABLE (a real treat because I have unreasonably slender fingers that no adult rings come close to fitting).

Although I’m not a Taurus, I would happily wear the Taurus Zodiac Ring, as a reminder of (or fitting tribute to) those nearest and dearest to me born under this sign.

Also in Scorpio (another favorite) and Leo.

This vintage Going Steady Charm Necklace is pretty amazing. Both halves of the couple appear to be male (perhaps one has a 1950′s bob haircut if it’s a hetero charm?), but I like it. I’m an old fashioned romantic.

The Silver Love Letter Necklace appeals to me because I like jewelry filled with secrets.

Anthony Santella

Nice concept for a sculpture: a skull within a human mask. I wonder if I would leave it half open, or let the occasional observer be surprised.

This is the work of artist and sculptor Anthony Santella.

Patrick Palmer

I’ve had this painting by Patrick Palmer on my desk top all week. Although it does not reflect my current emotional state, I admire this painting as a portrayal of a powerful inexplicable feeling.

Many of us have been there.

Sock Dreams (Again)

Posted in clothing, fashion, wish list with tags , , on May 30, 2010 by shewalkssoftly

Some of you may know, I do not have the stereotypical female lust for shopping. But I have an odd love of interesting socks. Most days my socks are plain black, yet I’ve developed a bit of a collection for special occasions. I should really ask Sock Dreams if they want to sponsor this blog!

Here are the latest on my wish list:

Peacock Feather Knee Highs

Fairytale Knee Highs

Owl Knee High

Chat Noir Knee Highs (I already have this painting on a poster and shirt)

Lurex Sneaker Socks

These might be a little high on the cute factor for me to purchase (after all, I only like to bust out a full-on *cute* accessory a few times a year), but I can smile at them from afar.

Perhaps I just like the idea that someone chose a Manatee as a sock subject.

Cupcakes

Ninjas

Since I can’t blow close to $100 on socks to get them all…does anyone have particular favorites out of these? I’m leaning toward Peacock Feathers and Chat Noir at least.

Ryan Heshka: Strange Powers

Word of the new Ryan Heshka solo show at Chicago’s Rotofugi Gallery has been circulating quite a bit lately.

I’m a fan of Heshka’s work, so I was pretty happy to see this new collection of pulpy monster-superhero madness!

I think he should print a series of Strange Powers trading cards. Wouldn’t that be a perfect collector’s micro-portfolio?

Evil Scientist Castle

A number of blogs have made reference to an old favorite site of mine, Animation Backgrounds, lately.

So I’d like to share a beloved still frame:

I want to live there. It’s the neon indication of evil that does it for me.
