Death Star Cookie Jar

Posted in geek, products, sci-fi with tags , , on January 26, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

I am not a Star Wars geek by any stretch of imagination…but I have to admit this cookie jar is awesome.

Death Star Cookie Jar almost sounds like a band name.

You can order one here.

Christmas Remainders

The holidays had some unexpected challenges in store for me this year (including hospitalized family, and what may be the largest data loss of my entire electronic life, if my paid backup service fails me). I’m trying to stay positive, so instead of lamenting anything quite yet, I’ll simply go ahead and give you a belated Christmas collection of links I had marked.

Incredible paper cut snowflakes

Skullflake!

Amazing Galaxy Science Fiction Christmas covers

The Grinch print

A great collection of gingerbread creations

Santa’s cinematic debut

Simon’s Cat: Santa Claws (I had the pleasure of watching two new cats “discover” a Christmas tree this year…this video pretty much captures it all):

Lego Robot Santa!

DIY art magazine gift bows

I hope you all had fantastic holidays…whatever and however you celebrate!

Predator Snowflake

I haven’t posted the series of sci-fi inspired snowflake designs currently circulating around the Web, because they are showing up everywhere. However, in accordance with my odd penchant for Predator inspired items, I can’t neglect this one:

Tatsuya Morino

Somehow, I missed this on Pink Tentacle, but luckily Monster Brains also posted it.

Tatsuya Morino’s horror and sci-fi illustrations are top notch.

Detailed…wild…frantic…intense…

You’ll find interpretations of HG Wells, Mary Shelley and other well known classics in his collection.

Not much info on this little custom gem. I wish they manufactured these (along with a Predator Pez dispenser of course).

Brilliant work on the jaws…

The Long Island MST3K Club

Posted in events, film, geek, humor, sci-fi with tags , , , , on July 21, 2010 by shewalkssoftly

In an effort to unite some local film geeks, I’ve started a club and we have our first meeting on Friday!

If you are a Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan and can make it to the Long Island area, please join our facebook group, spread the word, come to our events! Friday evenings at 7 will NOT be a standard time because I know it’s inconvenient for many people.

There has been talk of invention exchanges, baking contests and all sorts of cool stuff for future meetings…stay tuned…

Humans Are Among Us!

Posted in advertising, retrofuturism, sci-fi with tags , , on July 10, 2010 by shewalkssoftly

What a brilliant old ad campaign for the Sci-Fi Channel (before it became SyFy):

Yes indeed, monsters and aliens…humans can be frightening and cringe-worthy, can’t they?

Throwing Chicken created a series of futuristic fossils: Creatures of the Mechazoic Era

These wonderful sci-fi inspired sculptures speak of a future we have not yet known…buried in the past.
