Posted by proxy from Dana’s “stuff to blog” queue while she is on medical hiatus. She reads and appreciates all comments…and apologizes for not being able to respond at the moment.

Creepy, freakish dioramas and dolls. What fun!

Face Off: Tim Burton

Posted in craft, makeup, monsters, sculpture, TV with tags , , , , on March 10, 2012 by shewalkssoftly

Face Off very effectively pits my love of horror makeup design against my aversion to reality TV (WHY can’t this be a regular documentary series? Fewer petty squabbles and more monsters, please!).

Contestants are given various cinematic makeup challenges. Recently they were asked to create something that looks “Tim Burton inspired.” I inadvertently caught about 10 seconds of this episode and figured I’d check out the results.

Here are some of the creations.

This was the challenge winner:

Since most of you reading this have probably seen a Burton film or two (*wink, wink*)…what do you think of these? The winner was pretty well done, but I’m also a fan of the bellhop character.

I think the episode will be on Hulu at some point. See a little recap here.

Well, these are some wild lips, indeed (pun intended)! Paige Thompson has an adorable series of animal lipstick designs on her DeviantART site.

Coloron Pro Instant Eyeshadow

Posted in fashion, halloween, makeup, products with tags , , , on September 3, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

I probably should have picked up some eyeshadow skills over the years (or at least had them seep into me by osmosis at the goth/industrial/punk/metal shows I went to when I was younger). But I rarely use the stuff and I’m clueless about it.

Coloron Pro Instant Eyeshadow takes the work out of it with these stick on eyeshadow ovals.

They come in regular colors, but I think the patterns are more worth the cost. I’d love to try one of these for a Halloween party or special event.

Something about this idea reminded me of Homer Simpson’s makeup gun (Coloron has a sure advantage in precision).

See more designs by COLORON PRO.
