Halloween Countdown: Party City Roundup

Posted in decoration, halloween, home, products, undead with tags , , , , on October 14, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

And now, some favorites from this year’s stock.

I like their whole “Be Very Afraid” line of decorations and tableware.

A few simple, classy black items might go well with…well, pretty much anything.

A special twist on drink umbrellas:

Check out this…wait for it…HANDelabra:

I must admit I swooned over these mini icing knives for cake/cupcake decorating like I was looking at a newborn baby. “Ooooh…so cute!”

Halloween Countdown: Monster Supplies

Posted in destinations, food, halloween, home, humor, products with tags , , , , , on October 7, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

Most commercial Halloween products tend to lean toward the colorful, campy side. I love seeing *classy* products like the following.

From the Ministry of Stories:
Welcome to East London’s premier purveyor of everyday and bespoke goods for the living, dead and undead. We stock a pharmacopoeia of different types of fear, a complete range of edible human preserves and everyday household essentials like Fang Floss and Zombie Mints. So we invite clients old and new to come and discover why we’ve been the store of choice for discerning monsters for over two hundred years, and will be the same forevermore.

Desktop Goodies 9/29

Quite an interesting articulation…

Couldn’t help but laugh at this:

Aww…it wouldn’t surprise me if someone started selling soaps on Etsy designed to look like these (there has been a surprising amount of fetus soap…why not put a sea life spin on it?).

A vintage depiction of an onion bringing HERSELF to tears. How meta.

Yes, it’s a claw…but doesn’t it look like an alien head?

So much pink…so much…meat. Valiant effort on the part of the meat roller.

The logical dessert spread after a setup like the above would clearly come from this book:

I’ve seen some bad wax figures, but Wax Jesus is looking a little rough.

I suppose it could be worse…these things could be happening.

Ha! No idea where this comes from, but it’s entertaining.

Here, have some emotions:

And now for your daily dose of confusion:

Hush Pod

This chair by Freya Sewell looks very inviting to me.

It’s another piece of introvert furniture (for those who don’t want the Sensory Deprivation Skull). Perfect for curling up and reading A Guide for the Extra Woman

Sleeping on the Moon

Posted in astronomy, home, inspiration, products with tags , , , on August 24, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

Here is another one of those items I’d love to have if I had ANY space to put it. There’s something almost lonely, yet peaceful and beautiful about a moon body pillow.

This reminds me of a small dialog I had with a friend many years ago.

Me: Sometimes I feel like I’m on my own planet.
Friend: Yes, but you are the ruler of that planet.

I’d like to combine this with one of those celestial projectors that casts constellations on the walls (if anyone has a good suggestion for a fairly inexpensive one, please share!).

The company also makes a smaller size, which for some reason I find less appealing…though rather inspirational as an item I could make myself (I did make astronomy pillows when I was in college).

Bronze Raven Doorbell

I have no idea why I did a search for “raven doorbell” and bookmarked this last year (probably something dream-prompted), but this is what I found. There’s something…not right…about this poor fellow.

He seems distressed, and unwelcoming toward human fingers in his mouth.

What sentiment do you think he’s expressing? Quotes?

Mizukagami Water Mirrors

Posted in decoration, design, home with tags , , on July 29, 2011 by shewalkssoftly

I’ve seen countless decorative mirrors, but very few do creative things with the design of the mirror surface itself.

Would you want one of these in your house? I rather like the illusion.

A few more photos and a tiny bit of info at the source.

Dellamorte & Co.

Dellamorte & Co. was recommended to me by a very kind reader.

Conjuring an archaic aesthetic and a sense of dark allure, Dellamorte & Co. draws inspiration from catacombs and tombs, mysticism and the realm of esoteric lore.

These items are hand sculpted, cast and painted with fantastic detail. It’s a high end, classy touch of darkness for the home.

Check out these candlesticks and bottle stoppers:

Tentacles!

Bones…with a twist…

Hand of Glory (if you don’t know the legend behind these, it’s rather interesting):

Earlier this year I actually did a search for “tombstone magnets” and these are better than anything I found.

Mr. Chair

Now, I have a strict rule against my furniture being in better shape than I am. But if you prefer your chairs with well defined pecs and abs, you might want to consider “Mr. Chair.”

This is furniture that seems to say “Don’t you dare sit on me when you could be working out right now, you lazy sack of crap!”

I can’t read the text, but I love this product. Scrabble tiles for kitchen and bathroom!

What would you spell if you bought these tiles?
