Some less popular brands do not use it and they taste exactly the same, so I don’t see why they feel the need to put the slaughterhouse by-product of melted animal collagen in an innocent kiddie treat. I imagine the CEO of Brach’s is some sadistic hater of all things cute and fuzzy, demoniacally looking down from his candy fortress while innocent, unsuspecting children are eating boiled pig tendons while giggling and prancing around in their princess/dinosaur costumes.

I personally don’t even care much for the gelatin-free candy corn. I still buy it and display it because a bowlful does help achieve the ultimate Halloween setting. It often gets thrown away in November.

Although I have to admit it’s more iconic than tastey. The big advantage to candy corn is that I’ll eat one or two pieces at a time, whereas many other candies seduce me into eating the whole bag instantly.
