Fay Helfer has a series of pyrography hearts that are quite stunning.
She combines anatomy with wildlife so beautifully.
There are other characters waiting to greet you on her site as well…
…so take a look.

“pyrography”…. I always just called it “using my woodburning tool”, but “pyrography” does sound cooler. ^_~
It’s a wonderful term. it sounds dangerous and daring (in the wrong hands, I’m sure it is).
I agree with Andy, I saw a guy using burning for drawing but I had no idea there was a word for it. Neither did I have any inkling that such magnificent work was possible with it!
This probably takes a good deal of practice…and hopefully not too many blistered body parts.
My fave is definitely Vincent Price.
Yeah, that portrait is so intense!
The heart is such an amazing thing. LOVE all these, including Mr. Price
There’s something about painting on wood that I really like sometimes. Seems to give the subject matter some extra character.
