apparently it was the ‘magic dot system’, an alleged cure for hernias (by means of ’sealing’) but was found to be fraudulent since it neither worked nor was it a new scientific discovery as he had claimed. i hate to think what it was made of….
ruptures were the name for hernias at the time according to this somebody here:
